The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional with a passion for the job. The successful candidate must apply estimating best practices to achieve excellent results. -Our ideal candidate is an independent proactive worker, strong analytical, flexible, detailed oriented with expertise in construction estimating.The Estimator is responsible for estimating -work of projects involved at all aspects of estimating including pre-construction, hard bids, negotiated bids, budgets, general conditions, systems - - -studies and comparisons, value engineering, subcontractor relations and staying abreast of industry developments applicable to estimating. The estimator will analyze -labor, material, and time requirements to determine the overall -cost -of the -project.Job Responsibilities -

  • Conduct detailed analysis of contract documents (isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings) and specifications for large hard bid/lump sum and construction management projects to determine overall project requirements (bonding, insurance, etc.).
  • Complete material quantities and construction equipment list estimate labor, materials, and time requirements.
  • Act with constant sense of urgency and obligation to completing assignments and meet client expectations and timelines while delivering excellent quality of work
  • Assist in bid process, learning differences between CM and GC bids, and preparing detailed bid packages to assure accurate and proper submissions/proposals by all subcontractors
  • Identify special requirements in technical specifications, and requirements for weather protection, cranes, hoists, temporary facilities, and services.
  • Evaluate pricing productivity impact such as weather, shifts, location, labor availability, site constraints, operating facility, etc.
  • Develop pricing of the general expense and project-specific general requirements for medium-to-large projects (lump sum, time and materials, etc).
  • Complete full quantity take-off of all labor, equipment, and materials for medium-to-large scopes.
  • Ensure that the estimating process runs smoothly and efficiently, and client expectations are exceeded throughout the duration of the projects.
  • Build relationships to understand client, designer and subcontractor needs and expectations.
  • Effectively facilitate collaboration with internal and external clients.
  • Strive for excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Assist in the integration of estimates and schedules for all projects.
  • Review current material and construction equipment pricing and ensure that bid validity and price escalation are addressed and meet project's needs.
  • Participate as needed in job walks, site visits, pre-construction meetings and close out activities.
  • Train other team members as needed.
  • Other duties as required.Qualifications/ Experience
    • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field.
    • 2 years of experience as an estimator in the construction industry
    • Knowledge of different construction methods, planning, scheduling, sequencing, potential problems, and timelines gained through site visits or on-site experience.
    • Able to use contract terms to identify risks/opportunities with contract/project documents.
    • Understands different bid processes and contract delivery type methods: hard bid / lump sum, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices, and construction management / cost reimbursable
    • Understands Public Works and Davis Bacon projects
    • Understands construction sequence and can produce a bar chart schedule; recognizes milestone date impacts.
    • Experience estimating multiple scopes and has a working knowledge of applicable products and systems.
    • Able to build an estimate without drawings/specifications.
